1) You have to get an autoresponder account with a reputable company. In the year 2007 and forward, you cannot do it on your own server, or your web hosts servers. Your emails just won't go through.
2) You have to have a squeeze page with your opt in code on it and put your opt in code on every other web page you have.
3) You must send traffic to your squeeze page. One of the easiest ways I have found to send quality traffic to my web site squeeze page is by writing articles just like this one.
